Piece of Cake (Houston) is a gorgeous fawn male born on April 11, 2011.
Houston is not cat or small dog safe. If you are in the Hampton Roads area and are interested in adopting Houston, please contact us.
And now a few words from his foster mom.
Houston is a silly fun dog. He will play 24/7 if I didn't tell him when it is time to go to bed. He steals socks and slippers and then tosses them around until he puts them on his bed and then lays on them. But he doesn't chew anything. He's a good walker and we have started meeting other dog walkers. He will stand quietly and let people pet him and the other dogs don't seem to bother him (except for small dogs). He does like toast. He will sit and offer his paw for a bite (photo on right). He has finally figured out the backyard is his to come and go in and he likes to run. He does go to the slider when he wants to go out. I don't think he knows he's a greyhound but family. He has to be with and do whatever you are doing. He is not afraid of anything and is curious about everything. He is a Mr. Nosy. He does whine if he thinks you are leaving him but settles down however unhappily.
He is so darn cute. Houston is doing very well in the house. He still has this thing about going half way up the stairs, stopping and thinking then turning around and going back down. I can’t for the life of me figure this out because he's not scared of them. But boy o' boy is he stubborn about not going all the way up, so I just leave him alone. When we go walking he loves having kids and women come up and pet him. With men he is still hesitate but doesn't pull away. Sometimes he's that way with Nick who is very quiet, calm, and gentle but then other times he is Nick's shadow.
I have Rocket and Zack here this week also. It is wild and wooly and fun. Houston and Zack are inseparable and Rocket is the grand old man. Having Rocket and Zack here is a good thing for Houston. I see him taking his cues from them. When I leave to do a quick run to the grocery store the other two lay down on their beds and now Houston does too. The whining has stopped.
Houston will be a really good family dog. He loves being with you. Something he does that makes me laugh is he looks at himself in the dishwasher panel and then stalks it. And he is determined to lay down on the rug in front of the sink while you are doing dishes and has no intention of moving.
December update on Houston
.
What a difference a month makes! Houston has completely settled down to family life and is an awesome and loving dog. He thrives on hugs and kisses. He has a sweet spot behind his ears that if you rub it just right he will let out a loud groan of contentment. He is a bit of a toast fiend and I plead 100% guilty of that but when he sits down in front of me with those sad eyes, he gets two bites - only. He loves to run in the backyard and stretch his legs and then wants you to chase him. Houston loves to play. He will play by himself tossing his toys around, wrestling with his blanket and rolls around on his bed but boy o'boy does he love for you to play and toss his toys around to him. He is a good walker and when he sees a squirrel or cat, he looks longingly at them by a firm "no" and he'll just walk on by. He is getting better about neighbors approaching him to pet him. He will stand next to me and slowly make his way to them for a pet. He is so nosy that if someone is doing something in their yard he "forgets" that he is suppose to be shy and walks right up to them to see what they are doing. He gets very excited when he sees children and if very good around them. Houston likes to be around you all the time and is interested in what you are doing. He is not afraid of anything and noises don't bother him. He is a goofy fellow and a handsome boy.
